Scar Sewing Machine

Scar Sewing Machine is a project that addresses the drama of childhood sexual violence in girls. The aftermath of abuse are often invisible scars to the naked eye. With this work I want to subvert the emotional and psychological stress that many children must face from silence.

The result is a series of photographic images of vaginas that have been printed on cotton white sheets of cloth and then stitched together with a toy sewing machine. The act of sewing, traditionally attributed to the female condition, in this case symbolizes the ritual of overcoming fear and stopping violence.
